What Is Twine?

Twine is a graphical user interface to make it easier to use Twee. Yeah, not very helpful. It’s middleware that makes branching/interactive stories easier to write. Maybe that makes it more clear?

The important thing is that Twine is a program created by Chris Klimas (Thanks Chris!) and you can download it at his website here:

Chris has also written his own suite of stories using the program, and we encourage you to go read his work here:

gim crack’d – an ongoing anthology of stories that react to your touch

Twine is being used in the Creative Writing For Entertainment Bachelors and Masters degree programs at Full Sail University to help students visualize and develop interactive stories, expanding beyond the traditional western broadcast-stories-at-you method of storytelling. Many of the stories here were begun (or finished) while the authors were in these programs, but Full Sail isn’t the only school using Twine in the classroom, and lots of professional authors are also playing around with it to expand their stories in new directions.

We love interactive narrative, and Twine makes those easier to create. So thanks again Chris, and we hope you enjoy our collection.
